PhD in Healthy Aging and Longevity
Graduating from Old Dominion University with a PhD in Kinesiology, I specialized in cardiovascular metabolic health during my doctoral education. While at ODU I founded a research series “Perspectives of Healthy Aging” which interviewed centenarians in the Blue Zone region of Costa Rica and in the United States.
As a Fulbright Postdoctoral Fellow, I continued this project with the Australian Longitudinal Study on Women’s Health at the University of Newcastle.
I have studied Health and Longevity in Costa Rica, United States, Australia, New Zealand, and Nepal. I continue to interview and collect data on aging well regardless of disease or disability as a guide to pass along to younger generations.
I have a keen interest in holistic health ~ learning how to live on a Whole Food diet from local sources, movement for everyday life, and mental and emotional wellbeing that is aligned with goals of living a simple- fulfilling life. I take on a unique viewpoint of health based on longevity and Blue Zone studies ~ to live well through transitions of life regardless of disease and disability.
I believe intergenerational community activities are of great value and founded a sailing school on the Eastern Shore of Virginia as a way to pass on what I have learned through the years.
From my studies: community, purpose, and local food is the focus of a life well lived.
I help people meet goals that are outside their typical medical guidelines or those that want a holistic view of health. Through practices that I have learned across the Globe, I bring a unique skillset that focuses on your location, your community, and your life. With a goal of reducing medication and taking a whole-body approach to your health for PREVENTATIVE healthy aging.
